“Macaco Gordo — or “The Fat Monkey” in English — is a 45-foot long, florescent-colored monkey that resides in the middle of a park in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

I was walking with Shara when we saw this. It’s located on the construction site of 99 Church Street in the city, Walking Men 99™ is a site-specific public art installation that joins together photographs of 99 pedestrian traffic lights icons from cities around the world, created by artist Maya Barkai. We found ourselves staring at them for a long time. 

These were really interesting and telling of how each city views certain, I guess, identity issues. The ones where the pedestrian sign is female, or the ones with both a male and female, or the one where it’s the handicap symbol. Really interesting.
